One-to-One vs Group Tuition: Which Is Better for Your Child?
One-to-one tuition is better when a child has a foundation gap, low confidence, or a level that does not match their school year, because the whole lesson adapts to them. Group tuition can work for a confident child near grade level who needs practice and peer motivation. For most children aged 4–12 who are struggling with reading in Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia or English, 1-to-1 fixes the problem faster, which is why DuoDuo Kidz Academy teaches one teacher to one child.
Where group tuition works
Group classes are not bad. They suit children who are already reading at grade level, can follow instructions independently, and benefit from a bit of competition. A confident Primary 5 child preparing for school-based assessments may do well in a small group with structured practice.
They are also easier to schedule and often feel less intense for a child who dislikes being the sole focus.

Where group tuition fails
The group breaks down when levels differ. If one child cannot read the passage, the teacher must either slow everyone down or leave that child behind. Most teachers, understandably, keep the class moving. The weak child copies, stays quiet and hides.

Ask one question: does my child understand the material and just need practice, or do they not understand it yet? If it is practice, a good small group is fine. If it is understanding, choose 1-to-1 until the foundation is solid, then consider a group later.
