First Day at DuoDuo: What Parents and Kids Can Expect
On the first day at DuoDuo Kidz Academy, a child is welcomed by one teacher, spends the first lesson being gently assessed rather than drilled, and goes home with a starting point marked on a personal progress chart. Parents get a short verbal update at pick-up and a clear picture of where the child is in Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia or English. Nobody is tested for marks on day one.
The first day is about finding the starting point
The goal of day one is simple: find out exactly what your child already knows. DuoDuo Kidz Academy teaches at the child's level, not the syllabus level, so the teacher needs a true starting point before any teaching can be planned.
That means the first lesson feels more like a conversation than a class. The teacher shows words, asks questions and watches how the child responds. Nothing is marked right or wrong out loud, and there is no pressure to perform.
What your child will experience
Your child meets one teacher and stays with that teacher for the whole session. In a 1-to-1 setting there are no other children to compare with, so most kids relax within the first ten minutes.
The teacher guides with questions and never hands over answers. For a 5-year-old that may sound like “which one looks like the word for water?”; for a Primary 4 child it might be a short reading passage with a few questions. The level is chosen to be slightly easy on purpose, so the child ends the first day with a win.

What parents will experience
At drop-off, a teacher will confirm which language your child is starting with and answer any last questions. You are welcome to wait nearby, but most parents find their child settles faster when they step away.
At pick-up you will hear where your child is right now: roughly how many words are secure, what the teacher noticed about confidence and focus, and what the next few lessons will work on. It is a short, honest summary, not a report card.
If your child is joining Educare
For the Educare After-School Programme (安亲成长班), day one also includes the routine parts of the afternoon: a meal, a shower, guided homework time and the daily 1-to-1 trilingual lesson. Teachers keep the first afternoon light so the child learns where things are and who to ask.
If any homework is not finished on the first day, you will be told the same day with the reason. DuoDuo does not promise 100% completion, but it does promise that you will always know.
Common first-day worries, answered
Tears at drop-off are normal for younger children and usually stop within minutes once the teacher starts a task. Older children who are quiet on day one are usually observing, not unhappy. Neither is a sign that the programme is wrong for your child.

Can I stay in the room for the first lesson?
