Many people picture an after-school care teacher as someone who watches children and makes sure homework gets done. At DuoDuo Kidz Academy the role is different. The Educare After-School Programme includes meals, a shower and rest, but the heart of the afternoon is learning.

Children come from SJK(C) and SK schools with homework, spelling and, during exam season, revision. The teacher's job is to make sure the child understands the work, not to finish it for them.

What the job really involves, at a high level

The afternoon has a rhythm, and you will be trained on it. In broad terms, an Educare teacher does the following:

• Receives children after school and settles them in for a meal and shower
• Guides homework by asking questions, never by giving the answer
• Teaches a daily one-to-one lesson in Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia or English at the child's level
• Runs exam revision when tests are near
• Updates each child's personal progress chart
• Gives parents same-day feedback, including the reason if homework is unfinished

Why guiding without giving answers matters

DuoDuo's tagline is From “Cannot” to “I Can!”, and it describes the job. A child who is told the answer completes the page but learns nothing. A child who is guided to the answer builds confidence that carries into the next page and the next exam.

This is also why DuoDuo does not promise 100 percent homework completion. If a child does not understand, the teacher works on understanding, and the parent is told the same day why the work is unfinished. Who suits the 安亲班老师 role

The people who thrive in this role are not necessarily the most academic. They are calm under noise, fair with children, and organised enough to keep six things moving at once. A love of primary-school children is essential.

• Comfortable in Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia; English is a plus
• Patient with children who are tired after a long school day
• Able to work weekday afternoons until early evening
• Willing to learn and follow the DuoDuo method
• Minimum SPM, STPM or Diploma; fresh grads and career changers welcome

Full-time or part-time, with training and benefits

Educare teacher roles at DuoDuo Kidz Academy are available full-time, and part-time 1-to-1 tutor roles suit students, parents and retirees who can commit to fixed afternoon hours. All roles come with structured training and certification in the DuoDuo method.

Full-time teachers receive a competitive salary plus incentives, EPF, SOCSO and EIS, and a promotion path to Branch Leader. With six branches across KL, Perak, Penang and Melaka and more opening, there is room to grow.
