A Teacher's First Month at DuoDuo: What to Expect When You Join
A new teacher's first month at DuoDuo Kidz Academy has three parts: a warm welcome into the branch team, full training and certification in the DuoDuo method, and close support from senior teachers and the branch principal as you begin teaching. You are never left alone with a child before you are ready, and by the end of the month most new teachers have their first children, their first progress charts and a clear sense of what the job is.

Week one: you are welcomed, not thrown in
The first thing new teachers notice at DuoDuo is that someone is expecting them. The branch principal introduces you to the team, shows you how the branch runs day to day and explains what the children and parents at that location are like.
You will meet the senior teachers you can turn to with questions. DuoDuo branches are small, close teams, and new colleagues are treated as future seniors, not temporary help.
Training in the DuoDuo method
Every teacher, whether a fresh SPM leaver or a former school teacher, is trained and certified in the DuoDuo method before teaching independently. The method is the staircase word-recognition system that has served 10,000+ families over 14 years, with targets such as around 500 words at age 5 and 1,000 by age 6.
The training covers how DuoDuo thinks about teaching: one teacher to one child, teaching at the child's level rather than the syllabus level, guiding with questions instead of giving answers, and building confidence first. Full training is provided; WhatsApp us to learn more.
Support from senior teachers
As you begin to teach, a senior teacher is nearby. You can ask about a child who is stuck, check your understanding of the personal progress chart, or simply talk through a lesson afterwards.
This is the part new teachers value most. Nobody expects you to be perfect in week three. They expect you to ask.
Your first children and first results
By the later part of the month most new teachers are working with their own children one-to-one. Because the teaching is 1-to-1 and tracked on a personal progress chart, you see your first results quickly: a child who reads ten more words than last week, or blends a suku kata that stumped them before.
Parents also see it, through live word-recognition tests. That first moment of a parent thanking you by name is when most teachers decide they are staying.
What to bring to your first month
You do not need to bring teaching materials or a lesson plan. DuoDuo provides the system. What you bring is more important.
- Clear, confident speech in the language you will teach
- Patience to let a child try again
- Willingness to follow the method rather than improvise
- Questions, and the habit of asking them
