What a Good Educare Day Looks Like: The DuoDuo After-School Schedule
A DuoDuo Educare day follows a fixed sequence: sign-in and bag tidying, meal time, shower and hygiene, guided school homework, a daily 1-to-1 trilingual lesson, a reading or revision activity, then dismissal preparation. Every step has a purpose, from restoring energy before homework to making sure teaching happens every day, not only when there is time left over. Parents receive feedback on what was done and anything left unfinished.
Step 1: sign-in and tidy the school bag
The day starts with a small habit that builds responsibility. Each child signs in, takes out their homework diary and books, and puts the bag in order. The teacher notes what homework has been set today.
This first ten minutes tells the teacher what the afternoon needs to cover and gives the child a moment to switch from school mode to centre mode.
Steps 2 and 3: meal, shower and rest
Hungry, sweaty children cannot concentrate. Lunch comes before any academic work, followed by a shower and a change of clothes. For younger children this is also where teachers coach basic self-care: washing hands properly, folding the uniform, keeping the towel in the right place.
The exact clock time depends on the branch and each school’s dismissal time, but the order never changes. Predictability is part of what helps children settle.
Step 4: guided school homework
Homework time at DuoDuo Kidz Academy is guided, not done for the child. Teachers check what has been set, then help the child work through anything they got wrong by asking questions: “What is the question asking? Which word do you not understand? What did we learn about this last week?” Teachers never give answers directly.
DuoDuo does not promise that homework is always 100% finished. If a child cannot complete it in reasonable time, the parent is told the same day with the reason, whether that is a foundation gap, a very heavy load, or a focus issue.
Step 5: the daily 1-to-1 trilingual lesson
This is the part that makes Educare different from a homework-only centre. Every child has a 1-to-1 lesson each day in Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia or English, following their personal progress chart. Lessons use the DuoDuo staircase word-recognition system, which targets around 1,000 words by age 6 and 1,500 by age 7.
Because it is 1-to-1, the lesson is pitched at the child’s actual level. A Primary 2 child still working on suku kata gets suku kata; a Primary 2 child ready for membina ayat moves ahead. There is no homework-only option, because this lesson is where the real progress comes from.
Steps 6 and 7: reading or revision, then dismissal
The afternoon closes with a quieter activity: reading a levelled book, revising a word list, or during exam season, exam revision. Then children pack up, tidy their area and prepare for pick-up. Centres are open Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 7:00pm.
