Why daycare cost and 安亲班 收费 vary so much

Two centres on the same street can charge very different fees and both be fair, because they are selling different things. One provides a room, a meal and someone to watch the children; the other provides a teacher who sits with each child. The fee follows the service, so the first question is never “how much” but “for what”.

This guide does not quote figures, because fees differ by branch, area and programme. It gives you the five things that decide the fee, so you can read any fee sheet and know what you are paying for.

The five things that decide the fee

• Hours: from school dismissal to 7:00pm costs more to staff than a two-hour session
• Meals and shower: a proper lunch, snacks and a shower are real costs, and a centre without them will be cheaper
• Teacher ratio: one teacher for twenty children costs a fraction of one teacher sitting with one child for a lesson
• Lessons included: homework supervision only, or real teaching every day in Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia and English
• Location: rent in a city centre and rent near a housing area are not the same, and neither are the fees

What should be included in an after-school fee

A fee sheet should tell you plainly what is inside the number and what is extra. For a full-afternoon 安亲班, these are the items to expect.

• Supervision from school pick-up or arrival until collection
• Lunch, snacks and a shower
• Homework checked for understanding, with same-day feedback when something is not finished
• Daily language lessons, not just worksheets
• Exam revision in the weeks before school assessments
• A written progress record and regular parent feedback

Then divide the fee by the hours covered and the teaching included, not by the month. That is the number that tells you what you are actually paying for.
